WRCC Events for the Vacation Week

Looking for something to do with the kids this week? Look no further than the Roche Centre on Centre Street.
On Tuesday April 20th Magician Ron Lovely will entertain the kids from 10:30am to Noon and on Thursday there will be a showing of Finding Nemo at 6pm. The fee for both is $5.
Both events are open to all kids and parents are required to stay during events.

Happy St Patrick’s Day to all of you!
If you are looking for some family fun, swing on down to Temple Street in West Roxbury for the 3rd Annual Shamrock Shootout, children’s street hockey tournament. Hosts Mark Sanders and Mike “Obie” O’Brien have once again put together what is expected to be a great day.
The entire event is paid for through sponsors and donors. This year there will be a donation bucket for Norwood High School hockey player Matt Brown, who was paralyzed in January while playing hockey.
We look forward to see you and great job Mark and Obie!!

Come by Boston Elks #10, 1 Morell Street West Roxbury, MA from 3p – 8pm to support the Feehily Family of West Roxbury. Tim Feehily (originally from Co. Roscommon) and Diane (nee McCarthy) born and raised in West Roxbury have 3 children aged 16, 15 and 12.
Catherine, the oldest, was born prematurely at 26 weeks, she had a large rare tumor on her back that had to be removed. She had several surgeries, which resulted in her being in and out of the hospital for most of her first year. As a result of the antibiotics needed to treat her, Catherine is profoundly deaf and at age 5 it was discovered that she was autistic and in addition has learning disabilities. Read more

FROG POND OPENING CELEBRATION THURSDAY NOVEMBER 19TH

Mayor Thomas M. Menino, Boston Parks Commissioner Antonia M. Pollak, and Frog Pond Foundation President Tom Kershaw will host this year’s official opening of the Boston Common Frog Pond on Thursday, November 19, at 5:30 p.m.
The rink will open for the 2009/2010 season with a special Frog Pond Skating School exhibition featuring a dynamic and exciting assortment of the Boston area’s top national and international figure skating competitors, local up-and-coming young skating stars, and Frog Pond Skating School students of all levels. The evening’s Master of Ceremonies will be Ed Peduto, president of the NorthEast Ice Skating Managers Association. Read more
Luis Tiant Movie Screening – Proceeds Benefit Local Organizations

Boston City Councillor John M. Tobin, Jr., State Representative Paul McMurtry of Dedahm and former Red Sox pitcher Luis Tiant are sponsoring a special screening of “The Lost Son of Havana”, the documentary film that captured Tiant’s return to Cuba after nearly 50 years in exile.
The film will be shown on Sunday, November 8 at 7:00 p.m. at the Dedham Community Theatre, 580 High Street in Dedham. The film will be introduced by Tiant, who will also be available for a question and answer period following the movie. The event will also include special raffles and prizes
A major league pitcher for 19 years, Tiant is best known locally for his contribution to the Boston Red Sox during the 1970s. Tiant, who also played for the New York Yankees and the California Angels, left Cuba in 1961 and was not allowed to return to his native land under the economic embargo for 46 years. The film documents the 67-year-old Tiant’s emotional return to his homeland and his reunion with family members he had not seen since his youth. Read more
5th Annual Roslindale Open Studios

The Roslindale Arts Alliance announces the 5th Annual Roslindale Open Studios to take place on Saturday November 7 and Sunday November 8, 2009. This highly acclaimed event offers the public two days of viewing unique art from over 97 dedicated artists. Local artists will open up home studios and display in local businesses and group sites in over 44 locations throughout Roslindale Village. Art mediums that will be represented include: paintings, drawings, photography, sculpture, printmakers, mixed media, glass, ceramics, jewelry, fiber and more. Brochures are available with complete listings and locations of artists with corresponding maps.
Roslindale Open Studios will take place each day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free. There will be an opening Preview Reception on Friday November 6th from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Longfellow House, 885 South Street, Roslindale. There will be refreshments and live music by the Boston Public Quartet. All are welcome to attend.
