Roxy’s been having a very busy summer, what with “the movies” in town and the new ice cream shop….”I Scream Works,” the sales at the Chestnut Hill Mall, and the books that need to be read, who’s got time to write. But she’s back….and there are a million stories in the night and day too! Speaking of books, Roxy was in the Village Book Store last Friday and the book lady recommended “Christine Falls,” by Benjamin Black….excellent! Carried it around and all and was done by the next day. If you have time stop in to the Village Book Store, they have a great selection and the staff is extremely helpful. Sitting right next to Mr. Black’s mystery thriller is “Eight in the Box,” by West Roxbury own Raffi Yessayan, which Roxy highly recommends and was another that was unputdownable!

Let me just tell you that Roxie loves I Scream Works. What a great addition to Centre Street and the Parkway and a great family outing There’s nothing like a little Brigham’s mocha chip and a raspberry lime rickey.
On Tuesday night Roxie was invited to the Troop 7 merit badge ceremony. These young men are very impressive. They work hard to contribute and give back to our community. Roxie had the opportunity to speak with Daniel Gibson and Brendan Hanrahan. Daniel Gibson has recently become an Eagle Scout and will be heading to Iona College in the fall. Brendan Hanrahan is working on his Eagle Scout project. He will be a senior at Roxbury Latin in the fall. Stay tuned for more information about Brendan’s eagle project.
On Thursday evening at Barnes and Noble in Braintree at 7:00pm, West Roxbury’s own Raffi Yessayan will be signing copies of his recently published thriller “Eight in the Box.” Roxie ran right over to Barnes and Noble in Chestnut Hill and got a copy. So far so good….I doubt Roxie will be getting any sleep tonight!
Also on Thursday night, the Highland Civic Association is holding its spring meeting. The meeting will begin at 6:00pm at the West Roxbury Branch Library. Special guest speakers include Lauren Ockene, Founder of Grassroots Organization JP Trees and George Philippedes, MD

Representative Mike Rush (D-West Roxbury) had a very successful kick-off party Annunciation Church Hall. The house was packed. Mike received a great deal of support from the community and many local politicians. Once again “the Parkway” showed its’ stuff.
Roxie wants to wish Elizabeth Linehan great success as she heads off to college in the Fall to study early childhood education. Elizabeth’s parents are Gerry and Karen Linehan and they are very proud of Elizabeth.
Who said Friday the 13th is a scary day! Certainly not Roxie. Did you see the line at “I Scream Works?” It was down the block and around the corner. Bob Ward and Steve Palladino did a great job. It was a fantastic opening and once again the “the Parkway” showed its’ stuff! Only problem was Roxie couldn’t even cut the line….but when she finally got her great big ice cream cone it was worth the wait.
Don’t forget that this Sunday is Father’s Day! And if you are looking for an outdoor activity The West Roxbury YMCA has partnered with the Larz Anderson Auto Museum in Brookline to present the first is a series of four lawn events featuring automobiles. This week’s event is German Car Day. This event begins at 10:00 am and will include over 100 German cars. In addition to the cars there will be music and vendors. A portion of the proceeds will go to the YMCA Reach Out Annual Campaign. This program helps members of our community with financial assistance to be able to participate in YMCA programs. Look for Roxie…she loves German cars!!!

Once again, Roxie had a great week! The fundraiser for Scott “Sky” Bram hall was a huge success. Roxie had a blast at the “Ole Irish Ale House.” Roxie heard that the contributions were amazing. Once again “THE PARKWAY SHOWED its STUFF”.
Last week we had the Corrib Road Race which Roxie heard was the biggest in its history! When Roxie arrived it looked like everyone was having a really good time. Good job Corrib!
Next week looks like it promises to be another great one. On Friday, June 6th, (Roxie’s favorite day of the year) Mike Rush is having his kick-off party at the Annunciation Church Hall at 7:00 pm. All are welcomed and the suggestion donation is $20.00. Roxie will be there and so should you.

On Wednesday she attended “Girl’s Night Out,” at Masona Grill. It was a huge success. The food was fabulous, right down to the artichoke fritters, not to mention the sangria! Carol O’ Connor, the Parkway Table Critic planned a great evening. All proceeds from the event were donated to “The Babes” a local team that supports the American Cancer Society. Read more

Well, here’s Roxie for the 11th week in a row! Can you believe it! Eleven weeks and still going strong. Over 120,000 visitors to the site.
Roxie took a run up to Millennium Park on Saturday to enjoy a few soccer games. The kids were having a blast and the team spirit was phenomenal. Those little kids can sure kick a ball. If you haven’t seen a game it’s worth an hour of your time and the scenery is magnificent. A true Parkway treasure. Read more

Roxie had a big weekend. Her 1st stop on Saturday was City Councilor John Tobin’s Annual Breakfast at the Corrib. John and his beautiful family, wife Kate and sons Matt and Daniel were on hand to meet and greet many of their supporters. City Councilor John Connolly did the honors and introduced the Councilor. Also on the scene were Senator Marian Walsh and City Councilor Rob Conslavo. As usual the breakfast was delicious, the conversation stimulating, and it was great to hear all the plans for the future of Councilor Tobin’s district. Read more
