2011 Boston Bandits Summer Softball Try-outs

The Boston Bandits are the Junior Olympic summer tournament teams that represent Parkway Girls Softball League. After a very successful 2010 season at all divisions, it is time to look ahead to next year. The Bandits will be holding try-outs for the 2011 season over the weekend of September 11-12.
The Bandits field teams in the U10, U12, U14 and U16 age divisions that play in 4-6 highly competitive tournaments throughout New England over the course of the summer. Depending upon the number of qualified interested players and coaches, a second team may be added to any of the age divisions. Bandits players must be prepared to commit a great deal of time and effort so the teams can be successful. Lack of commitment on behalf of a player will directly impact the player’s playing time and development.
The Bandits coaches would like to encourage any player who is interested in testing their skills against some of the best teams in the area to try out. Try-outs will be held according to the following schedule: Read more

Boston Bandits U12 “Red” Captures Championship in Attleboro

This past weekend, the Boston Bandits U12 Red team took a huge step in becoming one of the elite softball teams in New England. Entered in the Friendship Tournament in Attleboro along with the Bandits U12 White team and eight other highly competitive programs, the Bandits used strong pitching and incredible defense to win four out of five games over the two days. The road was not an easy one for the Red team as they ultimately played Sunday’s number one seed twice over the weekend, the third seed once and the fifth seed twice–the Bandits were the number four seed coming out of Saturday’s preliminary rounds.
The weekend began Saturday morning at 8:00 AM against a perennial softball powerhouse Swansea Smash. This game proved to be a precursor to the rest of the weekend as it was a nail biter to the end. The Bandits scored their lone run when Kate Casey drew a walk in the fourth inning and then proceeded to steal both second and third base before sprinting home on a wild pitch. It looked as if the Bandits were heading toward a victory until Swansea was able to push two across in their final at-bats. It was a heart breaking loss for the Bandits but everyone there took notice that this team from Boston was one to watch out for. Strong defense was highlighted by a great catch by Julia Canty in right field to preserve a one-two-three inning. Read more
Parkway Girls Softball League’s Week in Review

Parkway Girls Softball League wrapped up its first full week of the season with 21 games played across the four divisions. Below is a summary of a few games from this past week.
U13 Division – Orioles Sneak by the Chickadees
After pitching a full game the day before, Chickadees pitcher Jamie Weisenberg and catcher Christine Conley battled the heat and a well hitting Orioles line-up to keep the Chickadees close throughout the game. Megan Lawler and Jen Murphy provided some offense for the Chickadees, while Paige Mulrey and Paige Dougherty got key hits for the Orioles. Caitlyn Berry and Jillian O’Malley pitched for the Orioles, finishing with a 10-9 victory.
U10 Division – Her-ricanes top the Diamond Dogs
Olivia McGrath pitched a strong game and helped her own cause with a double in the third inning to lift the Her-ricanes over the Diamond Dogs. Kelsey Murphy of the Diamond Dogs made a great catch when Her-ricanes first baseman Mauve Moynihan drilled a line drive to left field. Murphy threw it to third to complete a double play, and saved at least a couple runs. Read more

Parkway Girls Softball Opening Day Celebration Sunday April 19th

The Parkway Girls Softball League (PGSL) will kick off their 2009 season at Billings Field in West Roxbury on Sunday, April 19th. Among those attending will be Mayor Thomas M. Menino; City Councilors John Tobin, Robert Consalvo, and John Connolly; and State Representative Michael Rush.
The fun-filled day will include DJ Dave; a Moon Bounce donated by Rental Depot; face painting; and balloons. Opening remarks, the National Anthem, and the official First Pitch will take place at 11:45 AM.
Food and drinks will be on sale throughout the day with a $3 special, including hamburger or hot dog, chips, and a drink. The food and drinks will be donated in part by the Corrib Charitable Trust.
A new feature of this year’s Opening Day will be four exhibition games played by the Bandits (PGSL’s summer tournament teams) against the Mass Galaxy tournament teams from Gardner, MA. The games will begin with the Bandits U-12 Red Team at 9:00 am, followed by U-14 Red at 11:00 am, U-14 White at 1:00 pm, and U-12 White at 3:00 pm. Read more

Spring is on its way !! The Parkway Girls Softball League (PGSL) is now accepting registrations for the 2009 season.

PGSL provides softball instruction, competition, and fun in 4 age divisions – U8 (birth years 2000 & 2001); U-10 (birth years 1998 & 1999); U-13 (birth years 1995-1997); and U-17 (birth years 1991-1994) for girls in West Roxbury, Roslindale, Hyde Park, Brookline, Jamaica Plain, and surrounding communities.
Registration fees are $100 for the first family member; $175 for 2 family members; and $225 for 3 or more.

Parkway Girls Softball League Comedy Night Jan 23rd

The Parkway Girls Softball League (PGSL) will hold its 3rd Annual Comedy Night Fundraiser on Friday, January 23rd, 2009 from 730pm to midnight at the Elks Hall in West Roxbury. Proceeds from PGSL’s wildly popular and only major fundraiser support fun, instructional, and competitive softball for over 375 girls ages 7 to 17 from West Roxbury, Roslindale, Hyde Park, Dorchester, and Brookline.
Dave Russo and Carolyn Plummer will be this year’s featured comedians. Russo is a former Boston Comedy Festival winner, and both comedians have extensive national experience. Boston City Councilor John Tobin will serve as the Master of Ceremonies.
Entertainment will also include a disc jockey, music and dancing until midnight, silent auction items, a 50-50 raffle, a wine pull, and other prizes. Silent auction items will include a Wes Welker autographed football; an autographed Tom Brady photo; tickets to Red Sox, Patriots, and Celtics games; a ski house weekend; and many more!
Hot and cold hors d’oeuvres will be served; and a full bar will be available. Tickets are $35 each, and can be purchased by calling 1-857-205-7129, or by leaving a message at the PGSL answering machine at 1-617-413-2098. Doors open at 730pm, and ticket sales are limited, so be sure to order early!

Sign Up Now For Parkway Girls Softball Pitching Clinic

Parkway Girls Softball League is offering a Pitching Clinic for any player interested in developing this very specialized skill. Anyone interested in pitching during the spring or summer season is encouraged to participate. Janelle Carlson, the League’s pitching coach, will run the clinics. Here are the clinic’s details:
Instructor: Janelle Carlson
Dates: Sunday, January 4th – Sunday, February 8th (six weeks)
Times: Three one hour session available (8:00, 9:00 & 10:00)
Location: West Roxbury YMCA
Cost: $75

Each pitcher is required to provide their own catcher (parent / responsible friend or sibling) for each session. All PGSL catchers are invited to come out and work on their skills as well.
Parkway Girls Softball Tournament Team Try-outs

Parkway Girls Softball League (“PGSL”) will be entering tournament teams in several softball tournaments throughout the state during Summer 2009. PGSL teams have experienced a great deal of success this summer considering this was a new experience for most of the players. The level of competition that the teams are facing is extremely high and the teams are playing very well.
In an effort to help the team be more prepared for next summer, PGSL will hold try-outs for next year’s team on Sunday, September 21, 2008 at Billings Field (rain date will be September 28). The try-outs are open to all registered and non-registered players in the area. Teams will be created to participate in U10, U12 and U14 Age Divisions. Read more
