Roxbury Latin Summer Theater presents William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Join us for this tale of young love, magical sprites and merry wanderers of the night, an innovative classic version of Shakespeare’s best loved comic masterpiece. As the height of summer comes to a close and before fall shows its autumnal bloom, ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, one of Shakespeare’s best loved plays, comes to Roxbury Latin this August. In a world of lovers, royalty, sprites, faeries, goblins, elves and shambolic actors, a magical romantic comedy will unfold before your eyes within the walls of Roxbury Latin’s Smith Theater.
Roxbury Latin Summer Theater is a new and exciting professional theater project sponsored by The Roxbury Latin School. For our inaugural production, we offer an entertaining, imaginative, classically bold interpretation of this colorful masterpiece. Local Boston Latin Cheerleaders chosen to perform in London’s New Year’s Day Parade

Bethany Castellano, Ashleigh Primack and Mari Ross, cheerleaders at Boston Latin School, have been selected to be among more than 1,000 high school cheerleaders from across the U.S. who will be performing in the world famous London New Year’s Day Parade.
The BLS students qualified for the trip after being selected as an “All American” by Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA). All Americans are selected to try out based on superior cheerleading skills at camps across the country. Approximately only 10% of the cheerleaders who attend UCA summer camps earn the chance to march in the holiday spectacular.
The girls, along with their coach, Shana Melcher need to raise $10,580.00 to fund the trip. All donations and/or sponsorships would be welcomed and greatly appreciated. You can give your donation to any member, or stop by any Citizens Bank, and tell them you’d like to support THE Friends OF LONDON ALL AMERICAN TOUR. Parkway Youths Earn Boston College High School Honors

Connor W. Woods ’12 and Brendan D. Casey ’13 of West Roxbury, and Padraig R. O’Brien ’11 and Ross J. Merlin ‘12 of Roslindale achieved High Honors for the Fourth Quarter at Boston College High School. For High Honors a student must have at least a 3.8 quality point average and all grades “C+” or higher.
Austin L. Guiney ’13 and Osaevbie Woghiren ‘13, also of Roslindale, achieved Honors, earning at least a 3.2 QPA and all grades “C-” or higher.
Boston College High School is a Jesuit, Catholic, college-preparatory school for young men founded in 1863. The school enrolls approximately 1300 students from some 100 communities in eastern Massachusetts.

The last words of Catholic Memorial School sophomore Jhovani Vonleh’s declamation, which he recited at tournaments all year, were simple ones, authored by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
“On that day, our victory will serve as a double victory,” King wrote in “Christmas Hope,” a sermon he delivered in 1967 about his hope that one day, both black and white America would recognize one another as equals. Read more

Hear the facts about school choice and learn about the registration and assignment process. An information session will be held at 9:30 AM on Saturday, May 22 at the Community Room in the Area E Police Station. Information will be given by Kathleen Colby from Y/BPS.

The Sly Voxes World Tour Comes to Roxbury Latin, Wed May 19 at 8p

The Sly Voxes World Tour is here! On Wednesday, May 19, at 8:00 PM in Roxbury Latin’s Rousmaniere Hall, The Sly Voxes, a men’s a capella group directed by the School’s Headmaster Kerry Brennan will present its “World Tour” concert, with motets, folksongs, spiritual and pop favorites from around the globe. Roxbury Latin’s select a capella group, The Latonics, will appear as special guests. All are welcome. Admission is free.
Catholic Memorial School’s Grand Reunion June 12

Alumni from the Catholic Memorial graduation classes ending in ’5′ and ’0′ are invited to this year’s CM Grand Reunion, to be held on the campus of Catholic Memorial School on June 12 at 2pm. Alumni will be invited to the tour the school (2pm), hear a presentation from President Paul Sheff ’62 (3pm), celebrate Mass together (4pm), and take class pictures and reminisce over a clambake dinner with classmates and faculty (5pm).

CM Spring Concert May 4th

Catholic Memorial School will hold its annual Spring Concert on Tuesday, May 4 at 7pm in the Ronald Perry Gymnasium on the school’s campus. The concert will feature the school’s jazz band, members of the chamber ensemble, as well as soloists, duets and special guest appearances. The concert is open to the public.
Patrick Simas Gets Top Honors for CM at Mass Forensics League State Tourney

Catholic Memorial senior and West Roxbury native Patrick Simas earned a first place trophy in speech and debate at the Massachusetts Forensics League State Championships, held April 10 at Westford Academy.
Simas, who performed in the category of dramatic interpretation, earned several trophies over the course of the year both in and out of Massachusetts. Three other members of the team—senior Chris Masterson, junior Joe Botsch, and freshman John Allaire, also earned state titles that day.
In team competition, the CM team placed 2nd, with the following students also earning trophies for finishing in the top ten: Kevin Verity, Kevin Donnelly, Marcus Jackson, Eric Butts, Ryan LaMoie, John Barrett, Nick Leney, John Federico, Joe Botsch, Mark Woodall, Brendan Shea, Joseph Sweeney, Gjergji Evangjeli, Chris Ryan, Ethan Madden and Sean Steinberg.
Eight CM students to be honored for Italian Heritage essays

On May 16, eight Catholic Memorial School students will be honored at the Dante Alighieri Society in Cambridge for their winning essays in the Society’s annual Italian Heritage Essay Contest.
In essays written for their Italian class, taught by Br. Anthony Cavet, the students wrote about significant contributions Italian Americans have made to Boston and American history over the years. To be honored are John Federico, Nelson Alvarez, Brandon Hamel, Joe Presti, Domenic Cauteruccio, Paul DiRamio, Emmit Tkach and Antonio Zegarelli.
