Atlantic Associates Inc., 1208 VFW Parkway in West Roxbury, is pleased to announce that Stacia Talberth will be joining their Business Development Team as a consultant and advisor. Formerly the Director of Network Services and Telecommunications for Partners HealthCare Systems in Boston, MA, AAI enjoyed working with Stacia as their client for more than ten years. While at Partners, she was responsible for the help desk, all phone and email functions, as well as desk top platform development and technology.

On behalf of the City of Boston, I would like to publicly thank our partners at Comcast for their ongoing support of sports programs for our city’s young people. Their contributions to programs such as the Boston Neighborhood Soccer League and the Mayor’s Cup Baseball Tournament made for a memorable summer for Boston’s young athletes including the boys and girls who were guests of Comcast at the two Futures at Fenway games featuring the Pawtucket Red Sox and Portland Seadogs.
Fifty-two youngsters from Hyde Park, South Boston, the Roberto Clemente Little League, and the Regan Youth League in Jamaica Plain enjoyed a beautiful day at Fenway Park, with many attending their first-ever ball game. It made for an unforgettable afternoon that the kids will remember for a long time to come.
Thousands of other youngsters benefit year-round from our continuing partnership with Comcast and the additional support they provide for the Mayor’s Cup Football and Ice Hockey Tournaments and the City’s ParkARTS program. We look forward to working with them again in 2010 as we provide safe and friendly sports and recreation programs for Boston’s youngsters.

Taste of Roslindale TONIGHT at St Nectarios Church

September has arrived and it’s time for the Third Annual A Taste of Roslindale. On September 24th, 2009 from 630pm-9pm, over 22 restaurants will display tastings from their chefs at St. Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church, located at 39 Belgrade Avenue in Roslindale. This year’s beneficiaries are: the Roslindale Food Pantry, Roslindale Village Main Street and the Roslindale Holiday Lighting Fund.
Guests will be entertained by the sultry and sophisticated sounds of one of Boston’s top performing Jazz artists the Patrice Monahan Jazz Quartet. The “Butcher Block” – Iron Chef, Top Chef and Hell’s Kitchen production all wrapped in one cooking demonstration – will delight the audience, as Chefs duel it out to create the most delicious dish. Participants include Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino and Boston City Councilor Rob Consalvo.
Live auction, silent auction, raffle and an amazing line up of restaurants will also be part of the fun on Thursday, September 24th, 2009. Read more

West Roxbury Saves Energy presents a Green Business Forum for local businesses to learn about programs that can help them save money by saving energy. The topics to be covered include:
Renew Boston: Boston’s Environmental Chief Jim Hunt explains this new initiative, which uses stimulus funds to provide Boston’s small businesses with financial resources to become more energy efficient while also reducing costs.
Recycling: A representative from Save That Stuff Waste Management describes how recycling costs businesses less than trash removal.
NSTAR’s Small Business Solutions: Hear about rebates and free financing offered by NSTAR.
The first annual WRSE Green Business Awards will also be presented at the forum, which takes place at the West Roxbury Branch Library, 1961 Centre Street, from 6:30 to 8 pm, on Monday, October 5. Admission is free and open to everyone.

A cultural remix in West Roxbury Neighborhood keeps charm with influx of outsiders
For years, the new labels went to its neighbors.
Jamaica Plain was the spot for young hipsters seeking a tolerant environment. Roslindale was the ethnic melting pot with blue collar roots that young families could afford. But West Roxbury? West Roxbury was what it always had been, a suburban enclave in the city where lace-curtain Irish had settled and never left.
Where outsiders saw dull, residents saw continuity and comfort.
But as expensive real estate has forced a steady migration from Boston’s core, the diaspora has reached this outlier neighborhood, carrying with it couples like Drew Bartley and Chris Norris, formerly of the South End.
“On one of our first days in the neighborhood, our neighbor, who’s been here forever, walks up to us,” said Norris, an affordable housing advocate who scooped up a four-bedroom Victorian with his partner Bartley, a genealogist, on a block where the number of newcomers rivals that of old-timers. “And she says, ‘Welcome to the neighborhood. Boys, don’t you worry about a thing. My daughter is a lesbian.’ ” Read more

Mayor Thomas Menino will be at The Upper Crust Pizzeria at 1727 Centre Street in West Roxbury on Saturday, August 22nd at 3:00 for a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to celebrate their Grand Opening. Owners and operators Joe Mulry, Bryan Regan, Jason Santangelo and Paul Santangelo would like to invite the public to join them in the celebration.
Mayor Menino will be arriving at approximately 4 PM.
Davey the Clown Balloon Artist will be creating balloon sculptures for children from 3-5 PM.
They would also like to support The Greater Boston Food Bank by asking the public to bring a non-perishable food item. Please join them in celebrating their new restaurant, helping the community, providing fun for the kids, and for a free slice of pizza!

Upper Crust Opening Wednesday

The wait is over. Upper Crust Pizzeria has opened its doors in West Roxbury for business. Upper Crust is located at 1727 Centre Street, location of the 2007 Tai Ho fire. Upper Crust is leasing the largest space in the block that was affected by the fire.
