CM’s “3 Point Show” Leads to 84-79 Upset Victory Over #3 St John’s Prep.
February 3, 2010
Last night, the boys from Catholic Memorial put on a 3 point clinic in Danvers, as they went on to come from behind and beat the previously undefeated St John’s Prep (15-1). With CM getting thier 6th straight victory, winning 84 to 79, they are now tied with Prep in the Catholic Conference.
Behind the leadership of Senior Dan Brooks (27 points) and Sophomore Dan Powers (18 points), the Knights were able to chip thier way back from deficits that were as many as 18.
The game looked as though it was going to be a blow out by CM, as they took and early lead, but Prep, behind Coach Sean Connolly, took a lead that they held until 3 minutes left in the 4th Quarter.
It was the defensive pressure of CM that allowed them to stay in the game in the 2nd Half, but it was the 3 point exhibition that won it for them. CM scored 14 three point field goals on the game, with 10 coming in the second half. At one point it looked as though anything CM threw up was a 3, and Prep seemed to not be getting the bounces on the rim, that they were getting most of the night.
St John’s will face Xaverian next and CM will tip off against rival Boston College High School here in West Roxbury Friday February 5 at 7pm. Read more

CM’S Harney Wins State Golf Championship
November 8, 2009
West Roxbury native and Catholic Memorial School senior Joe Harney ’10 won the Division II state championship golf title on November 3 at Blackstone National Golf Club in Sutton. Harney defeated a field of contenders from all over Massachusetts, winning with a score of par–72–on the challenging Blackstone course.
Harney, who is captain of the CM golf team and who has played varsity golf in all four of his years as a Knight, had captured the Catholic Conference title back on October 17 at Indian Ridge Country Club in Andover. On that day, Harney shot a league-low 77 on the 72-par course.
A nationally-ranked player, Harney earned the golf team’s MVP award last year, when he won the Catholic Conference title as well. Over the summer, he competed in tournaments throughout New England.
In his four seasons, Harney has consistently been a contender in the Conference, according to his coach, John Palermo. Finishing with the first state title for CM in as long as Coach Palermo could remember was “a great way to finish it,” said Palermo.
“This was an outstanding effort for Joe, that caps off four great years of play,” he added.
