January 4, 2010
Saturday, January 9, 2010 10:00-12:00
Youth Workshop: (ages10-17)
Join us for some fun and express yourself by making your own poems. We’ll find inspiration in everyday things as well as in vivid memories and maybe even in your dreams. We’ll use some important tools for poets—vivid words, rhythmic sounds, lists, creative arrangements of words on the page, and of course, imagination. You’ll leave the workshop with a poem or two of your own, plus ideas to keep you inspired as a poet. Space is limited. Please register at the West Roxbury Branch Library, 1961 Centre Street West Roxbury, MA Tel: 617-325-3147

All the tables were filled when the West Roxbury Reads series, sponsored by the Friends of the West Roxbury Branch Library, began its fifth week Monday, April 27, with its second taste of cooking with locally raised foods at Phuket Thai Restaurant, 1856 Centre Street. Chef and owner Radtanawree “Na” Dongparteep served her guests a three-course prix-fixe dinner she said could easily be prepared at home.
The Phuket dinner, and other dinners on consecutive Mondays, as well as lectures, slide shows, and tours, focus on themes in the best-selling non-fiction book In Defense of Food, by investigative journalist and author Michael Pollan. Pollan will speak to the West Roxbury community on the evening of Tuesday, May 12, at 7:30 p.m. His talk will be preceded by a Friends-only reception at the library at 6:30 p.m.
