Connolly Sets Up Recycling for Corrib 5K
June 1, 2010
At-Large Boston City Councilor John Connolly is making recycling available to attendees of the Corrib Classic 5K Race on June 6th. Connolly is Chair of the City Council’s Environment and Health Committee and is known on the Council as the “Green Councilor” for his commitment to greening Boston.
Connolly worked with the Corrib Charitable Trust Board of Directors, West Roxbury Saves Energy and Save That Stuff in order to provide recycling receptacles for participants and spectators and to have the recyclables removed after the event. He also worked with a local university to coordinate volunteers to help with the recycling effort. “Not only is recycling good for the environment, it is fiscally responsible for the City as we remove these containers from the City’s landfills.” Connolly said. “It’s great when being green saves us some green” said Connolly.

Shamrock Shootout III – There Is No Better Place Than The Parkway!
March 18, 2010
On
ce again the residents of Temple St in West Roxbury showed us what neighborhoods are really about. For the 3rd time in as many years, they hosted the St Patrick’s Day Shamrock Shootout to a crowd of hundreds, where over 300 kids participated in a round robin street hockey tournament. And the price? Free. No one paid anything. All fees were underwritten by the dozens of annual sponsors who help the families put on a great event.
Organized by the whole neighborhood, and lead by the O’Brien, Tracey and Sanders families, the day could not have been any better. The weather was perfect and the kids had a blast. There were 3 divisions with participants ranging in ages from 5 to 12 years old.
The games were coached and refereed by parents, and the fans really got a good show. Two of the championship games ended in sudden death overtime, with Jack McCool of the Emerald Society team ending the 10-12 year old divsion championship in dramatic fashion. Read more
