They Are Taking the Fun Out of Baseball
September 11, 2009
It has been a long week! In five days, I have been to the emergency room three times, comforted a child throwing up seven times in five hours, tried to remain calm through four temper tantrums all while trying to understand the in’s and out’s of this cities rules and regulations of little league. In my opinion they are taking the fun out of baseball. Read more

School’s Out Day 10: Missing Tooth
Just shy of her 6th b-day — Ava lost her first tooth today! We were in the kitchen and she asked for an apple….I said “OK, but it might make your tooth fall out (she had a VERY LOOSE ONE), be careful not to swallow it” (just in case it’s like the whole watermelon seed thing, I didn’t want her growing a set of dentures in there)…anyway, a few bites in and one of her bottom teeth fell out! At first she was alarmed, but after spitting her blood, saliva and chewed apple into my hand, she was relieved to see her tooth in there with the apple chunks.
It was hard to get too emotional while holding her regurgitated apple in my hand, but I did get a little teary-eyed! That little bottom tooth was the first tooth she ever cut — at 7.5 months. I personally think it is THE CUTEST THING when babies have those two little bottom teeth in their mouth full of gums! How did my sweet little baby (the one who screamed her head off every night from 10 PM to 2 AM, to the point where I almost gave the little colicky nightmare up for adoption) how did THAT little miracle get so big already? Anyway, we cleaned-up the blood, took a few pics with the apple and then Ava said with enthusiasm, “Let’s go outside and SHOW THE WORLD.” It must be nice to be the center of your own universe.
My question to all of you is: What’s the tooth fairy “good-for” these days anyway? (I would like to hear what she’s been leaving under those pillows lately). We are in tough economic times after all. Wait a minute, does she even work today, it’s technically a holiday!?!? Read more

School’s Out Day 8: Princess Play-date
July 1st…..needed the heat on in the car at 5:30 this morning. And it’s POURING BUCKETS, again. Guess what….more rain tomorrow, fantastic. Anyway, Ava had a friend over to play and things weren’t going so well. I tried not to intervene (I’m a big fan of letting kids try and work things out on their own), but my kid was so darn bossy (don’t know WHERE she got that from)…and the other girl was only 4….so I couldn’t hold back any longer. Ava scoffed at everything her poor little friend wanted to play, “That’s BORING”, etc etc. I wouldn’t mind but our playroom looks like mini-Toys R’ Us…I wonder how interested she’d be in the toys if I loaded them in boxes to be donated!??! Anyway, I digress. Read more
Summer “Vacation” Day 6 & 7

School’s Out Day 6: Bedtime Story
The weather still bites, we’re in the house, blah blah. (can you tell it’s effecting my mood now) Went to story time this morning….you would have thought they were giving out college scholarships it was so crowded. Turns out, they weren’t – the only thing going on was the gathering of 200 desperate-housebound moms with their 400 children on another rainy day gathering around a minimum-wage-paid teenager who could hardly read a sentence aloud. Summer “Vacation” Week 1
June 29, 2009
Day 1
It was only 9:00 A.M. and I had already relinquished all control to the children. They were both eating ring pops for breakfast and Maddy had taken her diaper off 3 times already, peed on the floor and got the broom to “weep it” herself. I am wondering if anyone has invented some sort of apparatus to keep diapers on (along the lines of a chastity belt maybe — HA, that could come in handy again in a few years!!!). The weather is certainly not helping! If I make one more zoo out of blocks I’m going to have to check myself into a zoo, permanently. Ava — the kid I have to drag out of bed every morning for school- was bright-eyed and bushy-tailed at 6:30 this morning. Of course she was. I’m wondering…..do these things happen in your house too?

Cleveland to Boston – One Car, One Mom, 3 Kids
May 19, 2009
I’m a mom. I multi-task. I juggle. I make things happen. That’s what I do. I don’t find my accomplishments extraordinary or worthy of praise. But once in a while, I surprise myself.
So when the opportunity to road trip from Boston to Cleveland with my husband, with the known fact that I would be returning to Boston alone, I took on the challenge. I should probably add here that I wasn’t really returning alone, just driving solo; I would be accompanied by my three and a half year old, two year old and eight month old sons. And when I did return home, my husband would still be on a business trip for one more day.
I can’t say there was much planning on the way to Cleveland. My husband was able to run into work for an hour and we were still on the road before 11. I made phone calls to family and friends on the way, arranging dinner dates and play dates. We stopped when we needed to and rushed to use the restroom, eat and resume our drive. My husband drove most of the way while I jumped in and out of the front seat to entertain the kids, pass out snacks, fill sippy cups and retrieve dropped blankets and toys. It took us 11 hours. We made good time and the boys did well, considering. And when we arrived at Grandma’s house, the boys were so excited that we let them play for a half-hour or so before settling them into bed.
