Himalayan Bistro
April 30, 2008
West Roxbury, Jamaica Plain’s more conservative neighbor, has remained a stranger to hipsters, artists and the trendy bars and diverse eateries that usually follow the younger, cooler sect. But with the arrival of the Himalayan Bistro, the area’s first Nepalese restaurant, West Roxbury is beginning to shed its conventional skin. The dining room of the Himalayan Bistro is vast, with booths lining the perimeter and tables methodically placed in the center. To the side of the front door nestled in the corner is a set of couches creating a warm and cozy area especially with the low wooden coffee table topped with books and magazines. Other decorative touches include pieces of Buddhist art on the walls and wooden ceiling beams painted in a paster orange hue. Read more
Mayor Thomas M. Menino
April 28, 2008
Dear Friends,
As Mayor of the City of Boston, I am delighted to welcome the www.ParkwayBoston.com online newsletter as an information source for the neighborhoods. Every City department and agency works hard to make residents aware of our free programs, information sessions, and community events. But we can’t do it alone, and so I’m pleased Parkway residents have this additional resource.
The Parkway area of Boston, incorporating the West Roxbury, Roslindale and Jamaica Plain neighborhoods, is known throughout New England for the elaborate park system designed by Frederick Law Olmsted. Today, Jamaica Pond, The Arnold Arboretum, and the Riverway are daily reminders of the significance these neighborhoods have in Boston. Read more
Paige Mulry – Parkway Nation
April 27, 2008
This is not the new face of Red Sox Nation. This is the face of Parkway Little League’s newest trivia question. Who is the first girl in the history of Parkway Little League to captain a Major League team? Paige Mulry is the answer and the year that happened is 2008. In the 50+ years Parkway Little League has been in existence, there has not been a female captain until now. Read more
Who is Table Critic?
April 27, 2008
TableCritic (see this week’s review) is a communications company, started by me, Carol A. O’Connor in October 2005. My website TableCritic.com is a restaurant review website, serving the greater Boston area. I started this website because I love to dine at restaurants. I find the whole experience wonderful, rewarding and fun!
The goal of TableCritic is to provide readers and restaurant goers alike a review of a different restaurant each week. I wish to enlighten diners about the positive and worthy aspects of dining out. The reviews showcase the ambiance, the décor, the service and cuisine of each restaurant reviewed, and what is unique about this website is the photos. The photos tell the story of the restaurant. My goal is to also promote the restaurants. Each restaurant possesses their own distinctive qualities when it comes to food, service and design. My wish is to feature these characteristics in the reviews.
The reviews are published weekly in the Boston City Paper (editor – Paul Feeney), that prints 6000 copies weekly. The new column Table News lists events happening in the greater Boston dining/restaurant scene. The reviews have been published in Scene Boston Magazine – North End, and On Tray Magazine, a bimonthly colored newspaper, which can be found in the North End and South Shore.
The men and women who review for TableCritic.com are detailed food writers. They work in the culinary industry; they are constantly dining in restaurants, attending restaurant openings, food seminars and always reading. They enjoy what they do. They are a wonderful group of writers and I am very fortunate to have them write for TableCritic.com
About me: well I grew up in West Roxbury and continue to grow up in this area. I have two younger sisters. We all went to St. Theresa’s School and I went to Boston Latin School. From there, I went to Boston College and received by Bachelor’s in History, and received my Masters in Education from Boston College as well. I am a certified Fitness and Pilates Instructor – teaching fitness classes in the gyms around the West Roxbury area. I teach Cardio Kickbox, muscle conditioning, step, bootcamp and Pilates classes. I also practice Bikram Yoga, 3-4 times a week. As you can see, I love to workout.
In August 2007, I was asked to co-host the non-profit Boston cable TV show “Its All About Arts” with Glenn Williams. Each week I update viewers about restaurant reviews, dining events, restaurant openings and other food related topics. Photos of the restaurant and the dishes are featured on the show. I have had the opportunity to interview recognized chefs and owners: Joanne Chang of Flour Bakery and Myers & Chang; Manuel Sifnugel of Masona Grill in West Roxbury; Max Peterson of West on Centre, Matthew O’Neil of Kingston Station, and Patrick Connolly of famed Radius restaurant also in Boston. Since I am passionate about fitness and fashion, Diane Ducharme of Yoga for You, Lisa Carrier of Gold’s Gym in West Roxbury, Tina Burgos of Stel’s Boutique on Newbury Street and Janeen Williams of Mod Boston Boutique in Boston have also made an appearance on the show.
I am also a publicist for some well-known Boston restaurants and the event coordinator of Taste of Roslindale, and of another large event happening next year for the Parkway area.
Yes, I do a lot, and that’s because I love what I do. It makes me happy. I enjoy promoting, whether it is a restaurant, an event; or encouraging a client, or even my 4 year-old niece Emily when I tell her “Yes, Emily you can do the airplane pose!”
Thanks for reading this article about me.

Vintage Speaks Out
April 27, 2008
In an attempt to clarify conflicting reports, ParkwayBoston spoke to a representative from Parkway Holdings LLC, the operators of Vintage Restaurant.
They are asking people to call 617-469-2600 and leave a detailed message including the gift card number, amount of gift card and a number to be called back. They will need approximately 30 days to verify all of the information and at that time they will make a decision how to handle the outstanding gift cards. Read more
Taken Ad-Vintage Of
April 27, 2008
In the wake of last week’s abrupt closing of Vintage Restaurant I have talked with many friends and neighbors who are wondering what happens to their gift cards now. The research that I have done leads me to believe that there is not much they can do. If a business closes or files for bankruptcy the card holders must line up and join the list of unsecured creditors. Read more
Continental: Back on the Block
April 27, 2008
Jack Kennedy has become somewhat of a fixture at West on Centre this past year, and not solely for his love of their burgers. For the past 8 months, Jack, the owner of The Continental, has virtually set up shop across the street from his grooming business and his three other rental properties as they rebuild following last August’s tragic blaze.
