Wrapped or Unwrapped
December 21, 2008
Many of my friends have been talking about how Santa Claus left them their presents as a kid. It appears to be 50/50 wrapped to unwrapped. I want to know what he did for you? Take this weeks poll.
My presents were always open and in some cases set up.
Merry Christmas!
Forget The House, Let’s Talk Yards…..
December 20, 2008
Welcome to week 15 of the NFL season; with two more weeks to go, we are really getting down to the nitty gritty now. Most of the cream has risen to the top; and more will be determined this weekend; and the teams at the bottom of the barrel should really be concentrating on what they can do to improve their teams for next season. Except for the deprived Detroit Lions who have two weeks of opportunistic football to avoid being the only 0-16 team in history. Actually, last week, the Lions played a competitive, protective game in Indy and were tied at 21-21 going into the fourth, but ultimately they lost 31-21. Their two other chances will come against New Orleans this week as 6.5-point home dogs and in Green Bay during week 17. I would have to say the Lions have a better chance of beating N’Ahlins in Detroit than the Pack in the Frozen Tundra; and if they lose both – - Yikes! Hello 0-16 NFL History. Boy, those Lions can’t seem to catch a break. On the flip side, they’ll get first pick in the draft…and perhaps this season will be a learning experience for them. Everybody always says things like that….did you ever notice? Well, in my family anyhow. If something bad or disappointing happens, it’s always….”what have you learned from this experience?” or “If you aren’t learning, you aren’t growing.” Okay, I get it – - but usually, like most people, I like to sulk just a little bit first, or dip my big toe in the pond of wallow…it inexplicably takes the sting out some.
There is a stat I read about not too long ago that stated something along the lines of; “the worst team in the league one year becomes a contender the following year”; the examples given were Miami (1-15 in 07′) and Atlanta (4-12 in 07′). Hmmm. Thoughts to ponder. Next year Detroit, Cincy, KC, St. Louie, Seattle, Cleveland and Oakland should all be good teams. Well, maybe not all of them, but if I had to take a stab in the dark, I would say; KC, Cleveland and maybe Detroit or Oakland will be much improved next year. Read more
The True Spirit of Christmas
December 19, 2008
In this time of rushing around trying to Christmas shop and figure out what to get everyone, it is nice to hear stories of giving like this.
Beethoven Elementary students Tyler, Ryan and Casey Browne of West Roxbury with the Toys for Tots box at the West Roxbury YMCA. Tyler, 9, and Ryan, 7, asked guests who attended their recent birthday party at the Y to donate new toys to the charity instead of bringing gifts. They were thrilled to see that their friends filled the box with donations.

No Job? No Problem! Pink Slip Party at Game On! Fenway
December 16, 2008
On Thursday Dec 18th at 6pm, “The Pink Slip Party at Game On! Fenway” pays homage to gainful unemployment and extols the virtues of life on the dole. While the focus of the evening is fun, the event also provides “out-of-workers” the opportunity to kick back and relax while networking with a bevy of area staffing agencies and job recruiters looking to fill much-needed positions, including West Roxbury’s Atlantic Associates, Inc. In addition to schmoozing, Jobless Joes feeling the economic crunch can take out their aggression during Slugging CEO Batting Practice by taking swings in Fenway Park’s visiting team’s batting cages (to which Game On! has exclusive access) or showcase their resolve with a few whacks at the Professional Piñata. A Video DJ will spin pink-slip themed songs and play video clips from pop culture’s big and small screen job-strife classics including Office Space and The Office. After working up a sweat and fueling their appetites, job seekers can mix and mingle while munching on $4 items from Game On! Fenway’s Easy-On-The-Pocket appetizer menu that includes Lay-Off My Nachos, Pay-Raise Potstickers, Workin Wings and 401 K-alamari. Delicious bites will be washed down with inexpensive specialty drinks including Jobless Juice and Under Pressure Punch.
As they walk in the door, party goers will be handed funny money to be used in raffles for cool prizes including Game On! Fenway gift certificates. Be sure to say hi to the folks at AAI.
