Letter to the Editor
April 26, 2010
An editorial by Marie Watson.
People have long regarded West Roxbury as the ideal town in which to raise children in the City of Boston. It is small, but not too small. It’s close to downtown, but far enough away that you feel at peace with kids walking by themselves. It’s old homes with pristine lawns and white picket fences have had people flocking here for the chance to get their kids the best. This is the image we portray, but I am now well aware that this is all a facade that West Roxbury residents have built up, but will not back up.
In the past few weeks many people in and around West Roxbury have been reading about the issues my family has been dealing with since August of 2008. I feel no need to go into the details of the situation, as many people can refer to the Bulletin and Globe articles as well as the comments section on the Globe article which is where a lot more was said. Long story short, my brother was harassed and tormented in Cooperstown,NY on a trip that while not sanctioned by Parkway Little League (PLL), was made up of all PLL players as well as PLL coaches. The head coach was Nick Nasuti. Read more
Opening Weekend for PLL TBall and Instructional League
April 26, 2010
The junior divisions of Parkway Little League opened up thier season with games that began on Friday Night under the lights at Praught Field, as the Instructional Giants faced off against the Astros. This weekend also saw the TBall Division get under way, highlighted by a great game betweeen the Chipmunks and Eagles.
One of the parents sent us this game summary and photos.
Edward Crane played a solid defensive catcher position. He made a couple of strong throws to first base. At the plate he was 3 for 4 with 4 hard hit ropes. Evan Tripp made some great grabs at second base and assisted on 2 put outs at first base. Evan showed some batting skills beyond his years at the plate as he slugged 2 hard line drives up the middle. Alex Tatten supplied some Chipmunks power from the plate with consistent hard hit balls. Alex also was very solid at first base with a couple of put outs. The Chipmunks had a great effort in their first game of the 2010 season against the tough Eagles team.
If you would like to send us pictures and a story from your youth sports please feel free to send them to us at parkwayboston@gmail.com.

West Roxbury Saves Energy Encourages You to Celebrate Earth Day
April 19, 2010
Get reusable bags at half price on Thursday: WRSE asked several local merchants to mark Earth Day by selling their reusable bags for 50 cents on April 22, and Roche Bros., True Value Hardware (1871 Centre Street), Macy’s Liquors, and the Centre Street CVS all agreed. It is crucial to our environment that we stop using plastic bags—which are petroleum-based and sit in our landfills for ages—so try to remember to take bags with you when you shop. These local businesses are helping make that easy by selling their sturdy, eco-friendly bags at half price on Earth Day. Get a supply and leave them in the trunk of your car so you can’t forget to take them along.
Plant flowers on Centre Street with WRSE on Friday: WRSE is putting together a team for Boston Shines to honor Earth Day and help beautify West Roxbury. Join us at the Hastings Street parking lot on Friday, April 23, at 9:30 a.m., and we will have you everything you need. The City is supplying tools, work gloves, and the flowers; we’ll give you a free WRSE T-shirt.
