West Roxbury Transcript Needs a Mirror
November 10, 2009
The West Roxbury Transcript Blog wrote a quick blog post about ParkwayBoston. Not a very nice post either. It seems they are taking offense to ParkwayBoston posting the same stories they post (without saying that – they are using a different excuse to slam us). They go on to say they attribute their stories to the authors and we do not. The first post they mention, the author is actually a part-time employee of theirs. That is why they give him credit. For that author’s full time job (in communications at Catholic Memorial), he sent us a press release and asked that we post it.
So I then scrolled down two stories before this ridiculous post of theirs, and what did I see? An email from the West Roxbury Business Professional Association , almost word for word, posted by David Ertischek. It is about a free car wash at Waves that we posted too.
Oh David, did you forget to attribute the author? Did I link enough here for you? Thank you for making me a better blogger.
Look at my Waves post below, and look at David’s ( pdf of their Waves blog post).

Got something to say?

Maybe you should change “written by” to “posted by”. Problem solved, transcript war over.
Valid point Jeff. But why does the Transcript care? Because they are a huge organization that feels threatened by two neighborhood guys who do what they do at a fraction of the cost and free of charge. The former editor of the Transcript sent us an email day 2 of our existence threatening to sue us over a story that every blog and news organziation in the city was writing on and we had first hand knowledge of what was going on.
That is really the point I was trying to get across. Anyone who knows me or Fitzy knows that we are not trying to be writers – we both work more than 1 job and have 3 and 4 kids. We have added a community site where every neighborhood organization can promote themselves. And we did that because the other news organizations stopped doing that and/or started charging organizations fees to promote a benefit or fundraiser.
Does the Transcript even have a physical paper these days? I never thought of them as a huge organization, never really thought of them at all actually other than someone I know got paid to deliver the Transcript back in the day but when the papers were delivered to this person’s house, this person would throw them under the porch and go collect the pay check. I always read the Transcript but just for the Police Log to see if anyone I knew got pinched. They’re probably experiencing the same problems that all of the real newspapers are going through like in the last season of “The Wire” where jobs were being slashed because no one’s reading the paper because they’re going online these days. I loved “The Wire”, that was a great show.
You guys are doing a great job, this site is great. To the Transcript, wtf (why the face)?
Just curious, since it was brought up by Ertischek, why do you not link to the tablecritic’s site? Since the reviews were posted there originally, seems only right that you would link to their site and article.
Brendan,
We certainly should have. We did a better job of linking and attributing with her stories in the past. In our haste to post quickly for the TableCritic , we posted without linking. If you look at past posts by us for her, we did link each time at the end. That was our agreement with her. We are posting her reviews to help promote her site/business. As we do for most organizations in the Parkway.
This isn’t our full time jobs and we do not have a full time staff.
That was the only valid point Erischek made. The way he went about it was slimy. I still have not heard why he cares? Why he would stick his nose into this? Why did he copy and paste the Business Association’s email about Waves Car Wash and not credit Mary Mulvey with that writing? That took me 2 seconds to find one example of him doing the same thing he accuses us (who are not journalists by trade or a media outlet) of.
