The following is a press release sent by Kelly Tynan
Kelly Tynan announced today that she is running for State Representative in the 10th Suffolk District. The seat is currently being vacated by Representative Michael Rush. The district covers West Roxbury, Roslindale and Brookline.
“I am announcing my candidacy for the 10th Suffolk District State Representative seat,” said Kelly Tynan, a lifelong West Roxbury resident. “I have dedicated my professional life to public service and hope to continue this hard work at the State House. My years as the Executive Director of West Roxbury Main Streets, as a Legislative Aide to Boston City Councilor John Tobin and as a teacher in the Boston Public Schools, have demonstrated my deep commitment to improving our neighborhoods.”
Kelly Tynan has spent her entire professional career working in the Parkway. At the age of 15, she worked her first job as a member of the Boston Youth Clean Up Corp, now the Boston Youth Fund. She then worked during high school and college at many local businesses including Atlas True Value and the West Roxbury-Roslindale YMCA. In 2002, she began working as a Legislative Aide and West Roxbury Community Liaison for Boston City Councilor John Tobin.
“I am supporting Kelly because of her dedication to the issues of our time and her many years of hard work on behalf of our communities,” said Kathy Butler. “As her Campaign Chairperson, I will work with her team to communicate why she is the best choice for West Roxbury, Roslindale and Brookline.”
She worked from 2004 – 2008 as the Executive Director of West Roxbury Main Streets. In this role, she spearheaded local business recruitment and retention efforts along with many community improvements including the Gateway Planter Project. Tynan, a member of the Boston Teacher’s Union, has been working as a 4th grade teacher at the George H. Conley School in Roslindale, where she is a liaison to the Parent Council and a member of the school’s Technology and Green Teams.
A registered Democrat and member of the Ward 20 Democratic Committee, Tynan has a Master of Arts in Teaching from Simmons College, a Master of Public Administration from Suffolk University, and a B.A. in Political Science from Stonehill College. Tynan is also a graduate of Boston Latin School.
