Matt Benedetti is Running for State Rep
January 27, 2010
Press Release From Matt Benedetti:
I’ve been spending a lot of time with my family, my friends, and my neighbors talking about what’s next for me. I am encouraged by what I am hearing and plan to run for State Representative of the Tenth Suffolk District. I expect that my candidacy will provide a good opportunity to discuss what I feel is important to our neighborhoods and how to best represent the district.
As a member of the Massachusetts National Guard, I am proud to serve the commonwealth. I am always looking for opportunities for greater service and it would be an honor to represent our community in the legislature.
As a former legislative aide on the Boston City Council, I recognize the importance of effective constituent services.
My wife Kathleen, a nurse at Children’s Hospital, and I are looking forward to the campaign.
Over the coming months, I will be focused on the one thing that I believe is most important-speaking to as many voters as I can and asking for their vote.

Got something to say?

Matt-to which political party do you belong? If you are unenrolled, which way do you lean?
Who?
According the City of Boston Elections Department, I am a registered Democrat and vote in Ward 20-12.
I respect anyone who puts their name on the ballot, especially in this day and age of pols, rightly or wrongly, being a 24-hour per day target. I’m fairly active in local politics and not “with” anyone for this race. I’ve heard of one of the announced candidates, but know nothing about them. Mr. Benedetti has three problems– akin to real estate — name recognition, name recognition, name recognition. I’m pushing 50 and lived in Ward 20 my entire life and have never met the man nor heard of him. That being said, I’m sure the same could be said of many candidates in various races across the Commonwealth. I look forward to watching this race develop and see who can get their name and message out there to the voters of Ward 20. Good luck to all.
This dude gives me the creeps. When he talks to you he kind of stares. Stares a little too long.
Henry,
That is called listening. It’s kind of unusual in politics.
Funny, first you say you don’t know who Matt Benedetti is and then you launch a strange insult. Do you know who he is or not? I do know him and you are way off base.
Matt is a great guy and West Roxbury/Brookline would be well served if he were to represent us at the state house. He’s a loyal, hardworking, dedicated person who really believes in what he says.
Take some time to get to know him before you make stupid comments.
Hey Henry,
Maybe its because you have some crap on your face.
Isn’t this the guy who didn’t know how to file the proper paperwork when he wanted to run the last time so he was disqualified? Yikes.
Oh yeah. In High School this kids nick name was ‘Issues”.
I know what you mean Henry.
When he looks at me I feel Dirty.
God Bless.
I heard that people who were running against him knew people in the Secretary of State’s office.
Matt is loyal to his family & friends. He began his military service in response to 9/11. He continues to serve today. Matt wants to represent the community in which he lives with his family. He has solid ideas on how to keep our community a safe and desirable place to call home. No one knows him better than I do, but I hope you have the opportunity to talk to him during the campaign. Best wishes to all candidates.
This blog would gain some credibility if people identified themselves.
Kathleen,
Just a point of clarification, while we (PB) encourage people to show their true identity in these comments, the fact that some behind may hide behind a fake name or email and should in no way reflect this blog as it is a community bulletin board if you will.
Also I want to note that Matt (and all of the candidates) should be commended for putting himself out there for this type of scrutiny. The fact that he (or anyone) is willing to expose themselves to the public like this shows their dedication to this community. I would also note that you should not take any of this personal.
He messed up with the signatures. Admit it and move on. Pretty simple. His fault not the Sec of State.
Good luck to all candidates!!!!!
John, I’m interested in your comment about hearing that people who ran against him knew people in the Secretary of State’s office. First of all, no one ran against him; he was running against Representative Rush. So basically you are accusing Rush of trying to block out an unknown, untested candidate that he would absolutely crush in a primary. That’s quite a weighty charge. The rules for collecting signatures are very clear (and very easy to meet). Being disqualified for not getting enough signatures is no one’s fault other than tha candidate himself. It shows a severe lack of dedication and sense. I don’t know where you “heard” your information, but I would suggest you think twice before making such a statement. At the very least, reveal how you learned such information.
Wait a minute. He couldn’t even get the signature part right? SShheessshhh. That is the most basic part of running for office. What was he thinking?
Dude, this guy has some issues.
Peace
Communities work best when we have open and honest discussions of ideas. Matt will listen to and work with the people he represents. I have known him for over 20 years and he has always been a stand-up guy. West Roxbury needs a man like him. I look forward to supporting him in this race.
Gents,
The basic part of running for office in a Democracy is that if a candidate gets enough signatures to run from registered voters in his/her district, he should be allowed to run. Elections are expensive and what better way to say money for both the incumbant candidate AND the State than to have an unchallenged seat. And Leonardo, I thought twice before posting. It’s not a weighty charge, its a shame that the powers that be would suppress the will of so many people who wanted an actual race. If the job of the Secretary of State is to minimize democracy by disallowing legitimate voters because of a technical, trivial, and innocent mistake then he did his job well. If his job is to make sure that legitimate candidates who collect legitimate signatures from registered voters from the district are disqualified for simply leaving off redundant information from some sheets that were submitted as a package then kudos to him. If allowing the will of the voters to be heard is his main concern then he let us ALL down. Good luck dudes
Ed Coppinger should run for Rep. He does a lot for this community and is a great family guy. Never mind the fact that he would be a great representative for the Parkway!
I wish Matt all the best.
I’m curious if he is single.
Eddie Coppinger I have heard of through my daughter’s basketball team. Good guy. I think he would have to be considered the front-runner if he threw his name in the hat.
Matt is a great guy who is committed to public service. I’ve gotten to know him well over the last few years. Lots of people active in local politics know and respect him. In fact, lots of those same people were excited for him to challenge Mike Rush last time, but yes too many signatures were thrown out. It was a rookie mistake. If you don’t know him, give him a shot. You’ll find a good listener. This will be a great race with Matt and Kelly Tynan involved – both high-quality candidates.
I am happy to hear about Mr.Benedettis candidacy and look forward to hearing more about his position on the issues. From what I know about Matt I can say with certainty that he is a sharp ,hard working and public service minded guy that we would be very lucky to have representing us.
