Patriotism in the Parkway
February 10, 2010
On January 31st, 12 year old Kevin McMahon headed to the rink for a Parkway Hockey Pee Wee travel game. When he arrived, he received a surprise that would make his dad and his country proud.
Kevin’s dad Eddie was recently deployed to Iraq as a member of the United States Army. Eddie McMahon, of West Roxbury, is a member of the 164th Transportation Battalion. His unit will be deployed 12-14 months transporting equipment out of Iraq and bringing it to Kuwait.
To show appreciation, respect, and solidarity, his teammates surprised him with an army stuffed bear, a yellow pin for his mom, and an Army t-shirt & hat for Kevin.
These young hockey players took the gesture one step further: they had Eddie McMahon’s U.S. Army Unit’s PATCH sewn on each players hockey jersey to honor their teammates’ dad.
