CM writing contest awards ceremony

(West Roxbury) – CM’s Picturing America Writing Contest will crown its winners in the 3rd annual contest on Friday, January 25 at 11:00am in the CM Board Room at 235 Baker St in West Roxbury. The awards ceremony is open to the public.
William Martin ’68, award-winning and bestselling author of Harvard Yard, Back Bay and The Lincoln Letter will announce the winners in the fiction category. Michael Connelly ’82, author of The President’s Team: The 1963 Army-Navy Game and the Assassination of JFK and Rebound!: Basketball, Busing, Larry Bird, and the Rebirth of Boston, will announce the winners in the non-fiction category. Award-winning poet and CM writer in residence Barbara Helfgott Hyett, author of several books of verse including Rift, will announce the winners in the poetry category.
The annual Picturing America Writing Contest celebrates CM’s best writers in grades 7-12. It awards $500 in cash and prizes in the categories of fiction, non-fiction and poetry. Students are invited each December to submit creative writing that responds to one of two prints, available in the CM library thanks to a National Endowment for the Humanities grant. Winning entries are published each spring in CM Magazine. The contest was recognized by the National Association of Independent Schools in 2012.
This year’s winners include students from West Roxbury, Wellesley, Stoughton, Framingham and Sharon.
A brief reception will follow the awards ceremony.
