Councillor Tobin to Hold Hearing on Replica Gun Ban
December 8, 2008
Councilor John Tobin, on the Committee on Public Safety, will hold a hearing to consider a ban on the use of BB guns and replica guns in public places in Boston.
He originally filed the order in June after local law enforcement expressed concern about the issue. The order also followed an incident on the Boston Common in June where a man being chased by police was shot in the arm after he brandished a fake gun that appeared to be real. BB guns, paint ball guns, toy guns and other convincing replicas of real firearms are easily accessible to the general public. Many other US cities have filed or passed legislation banning the sale and use of replica guns including Dallas, San Diego and New York City.
The hearing will take place Thursday December 11 at 11am at Boston City Hall – Council Chambers.
